2024 Lunar New Year Concert

On the ninth day of the first lunar month in the Year of the Dragon, Piano Blessings Welcome the Spring!

Friends of Sylvie Piano Art Friends will hold the “2024 Spring Concert” at 3:00 PM on February 18, 2024, at the Lecture Hall of the Hong Kong Space Museum. Ms. Sylvie Leung and students will perform piano pieces, bringing delightful melodies for the audience in the Lunar New Year. The concert coincides with the ninth day of the Lunar New Year, around the time of the beginning of spring, symbolizing “a new beginning and the revival of all things”.

There is the significance of “Nine” in traditional culture. The oracle bone script for the Chinese character “九” (nine) is very similar to the character “龍” (dragon), which traditionally symbolizes auspiciousness. People also believed that dragons had the power to control the wind and rain. Additionally, dragon and lion dances are often performed during major festivals to pray for good weather and a bountiful harvest in the coming year. Just imagine, during the festive season, the performers showcasing their piano skills, their fingers dancing across the piano keys, just like a lively dragon and lion dance. Their fingers fly and stand firmly, then the piano notes rise and fall. Although it may not summon the wind and rain like a soaring dragon, the lingering melodies will surely evoke various associations in the minds of the audience. While the piano performance may not include gongs and drums for added excitement, we hope that the audience will respond enthusiastically, applauding like firecrackers, creating a joyful atmosphere together, just like a dragon dancing in the clouds, boundless in happiness.

With “Nine.Dragon” presenting blessings from afar, the show will be a spectacle; the harmonious melodies welcome the spring for everyone! We eagerly look forward to seeing you on the ninth day of the Lunar New Year!
